Privacy

No accounts, no sign-ins, no selling your info. Here's the small amount of data involved in running Spiral, in plain English.

01The short version

  • You can read everything on Spiral without giving us any personal information.
  • There are no accounts or logins. The only thing you can sign up for is our newsletter.
  • We never sell or rent your email address, and we don't share it with advertisers.
  • Stores we link to (like Amazon and eBay) and, if we turn them on, ads can use cookies. We explain that below.

02What we collect

  • If you join the newsletter: your email address and whether you ticked the box for deals and promotional emails. More on this below.
  • If you email us: your email address and whatever you write, so we can reply.
  • Basic technical info: like every website, our hosting provider may briefly process things like your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks.
  • On your own device: if you switch between light and dark mode, your browser remembers that choice (in “local storage”). It stays on your device and is never sent to us.

03Email newsletter

Our newsletter hasn't launched yet. This section explains how it will work.

What we collect: your email address, plus a yes/no for promotional emails. Our email provider may also record when you signed up, your IP address (to stop spam and fake signups), and whether you open emails or click links in them.

Why: to send you the newsletter: new articles, picks, and builds. Deals and promotional emails only go to you if you ticked “Yes, send me deals and promotional emails” when you signed up. That box is never ticked for you.

Where it's stored: with the email service we use to send the newsletter. They store it for us and aren't allowed to use it for their own marketing.

How to unsubscribe: every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you're off the list. You can also email hello@spiralgadgets.com and we'll remove you and delete your address.

04Affiliate links and cookies

Some links on Spiral are affiliate links to stores like Amazon and eBay (see our disclosure). When you click one, that store may place a cookie in your browser so it knows you came from Spiral and can pay us a small commission if you buy something.

Those cookies are set and controlled by the store, on the store's own website, under its own privacy policy. We don't get your name, address, or payment details. At most, a store tells us that a sale happened and which products sold.

05Analytics

We plan to use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which articles are popular. It's privacy-first: it doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across other websites, and doesn't build a profile of you. We only see totals, like page views, which sites sent visitors, and rough device and country stats.

06Ads

Right now, Spiral doesn't show ads from any ad network. The one ad spot on a page only shows our own promos, and they don't use cookies. If we turn on ads later, this section applies:

07Embedded videos

Some articles include short videos from YouTube or TikTok. When a video loads or plays, that service may collect data or set cookies under its own privacy policy, just as if you watched it on their site.

08Who we share data with

Only the services that help run Spiral (our email provider, web host, and analytics), and only what they need to do that job. We'd also share information if the law required it. We never sell your personal information.

09Kids under 13

Spiral isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you're under 13, please don't sign up for the newsletter or send us personal information. If you're a parent or guardian and think your child gave us information, email hello@spiralgadgets.com and we'll delete it.

10Your choices

  • Unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in every email.
  • Ask us what information we have about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing hello@spiralgadgets.com.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Spiral works fine without them.
  • Depending on where you live (for example California, the EU, or the UK), you may have extra privacy rights. Email us and we'll help.

11Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top. Big changes will also be mentioned in the newsletter.
